What's a manga café?
A place where time slows down
People come as much for a coffee as to discover new flavours, read, share a brunch or join a workshop. Japan shows up through the food, the manga and a few touches of decor.

Hundreds of manga and comics, free to browse. Pick a volume, pick an armchair, lose track of time.

Specialty coffee, matcha lattes, Japanese teas, taiyaki and onigiri made in-house.

Brunches, game nights, workshops, Japanese lessons — there's always something going on.

Our story
A place that looks like them
Chez Obaachan started with a simple idea: Ophélie and Flo wanted to create a place that looked like them.
A different kind of café, warm and lively, where you come as much for a coffee as to discover new flavours, read, share a brunch or join a workshop.
Japan found its way into the project naturally, through the food, the manga and a few touches of decor. But the idea was never a place built only around manga: rather a café open to discovery, encounters and sharing.
So they went for it, with a lot of enthusiasm, a few doubts and, above all, an enormous amount of work. On 18 September 2025, Chez Obaachan opened its doors in Cholet.
Since then, the café keeps evolving with their ideas, new encounters and what you ask for. And that is what they love most: keeping alive a place that looks like nobody but them.
